Open Mic Write
So, this is it. What it feels like to walk up to an open mic in a crowded room. Like Eminem in ‘8 Mile’. All eyes on you. One shot. The one opportunity you’ve waited for as long as you can remember. You’ve wanted this moment more than air to breathe. Will you win the crowd over? Or fold. Some people in the crowd hope you fail. #Haters. But there’s one or two with crossed fingers, praying you’ll beat the odds. #Underdogs Because it gives them hope. It gives them something to strive for. To know it can happen for you, means it can happen for them.
And you don’t fail. You know the words. You aren’t nervous at all. In fact, you thrive on all this pressure. It’s what drove you to get here to begin with.
And, so, here I am! Nine years ago I started on this publication journey, kind of like how Forrest Gump started running. I just did it. It rained, snowed, hailed along my path. But I kept going. All it took was one person who believed in my work.
Timing will always be among the greatest mysteries, but when it happens, or doesn’t happen, it is the right time. Everything happens at the time it is meant to be.
So, whatever you’re passion is, chase it. Study it. Pray about it. Strategize it. Practice it. Preach it. Live it. Love it. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do it. ‘Cause you can!
If you want something, you’ll find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse.
I hope you're inspired to get out there and make something happen, whatever your passion. Walk up to the open mic and write history. Show it can be done.
