Adversity and the New Year

December 20, 2015

I have never been so glad to get to this point of the year. Actually, I've been looking forward to it since last year. It's when I take a big chunk of time off from my day job. And, the time when I get to shift from extrovert into introvert and W-R-I-T-E.

Writers may have this weird intuition. We're feelers. I mean, we have to 'feel' in order to write about stuff, right? Well, I had intuitions about this past year, and it was adversity after adversity after adversity. After adversity.

But as I've said in the past and I'm sure I'll say a thousand more times elsewhere, adversity is what makes you. Or breaks you.

I'm living proof. It can make you. Don't let it break you. Ever. There really isn't any other choice. You do what you gotta do. And then you get stronger.

While this was a challenging year, there was a most beautiful part of it:  getting word that my publisher wanted to buy my book ... and the entire series. Learning that my dream of becoming a published author was for real, finally, coming true, I could hardly believe it. It was surreal. And somewhat anticlimatic and calm. I'd envisioned me freaking out like a mad dog, running in circles shouting "I'm published."

But, that didn't happen.

Everything was calm. And then I realized anything I'd ever wanted badly, that's how it has happened. Calmly.

So, I'm thankful for the good and bad this year. Everything in life gives me a new perspective.

I am also thankful to be heading into a New Year. To walking up the steps to a never-seen horizon and giving it all I got.

Cheers to you and your dreams in the New Year. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't achieve what you envision. #MerryChristmas and #HappyNewYear
